The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia is a provincial Crown corporation established in 1973 to provide universal auto insurance to B.C. motorists. They are also responsible for driver licensing, and vehicle licensing and registration.

Source Data Quality Project:

The Source Data Quality Project was a sub-project of the Crime, Crash, Contravention and Corporate Data Warehouse projects.

  • The primary objective was to investigate issues and analyze data to identify the root cause of data quality issues and drive practical solutions to root causes to address problems.

  • The SDQ Action Statement outlined the impact, qualitative and quantitative benefits, including a rough estimate of the costs involved. Eg: An edit for a date field in the legacy source system (Claims Management System) or to unlock a transaction and allow update for a 24 hour period after initial entry.

MS Access Database Development Projects!

  • In three months, designed, developed and implemented the SDQ Tracking System, an MS Access, multi-user, runtime application for the SDQ Project that was used to track and manage SDQ issues and provide action statements concerning source data quality isssues received from the Crash, Crime, Contravention, the Corporate Data Warehouse projects and Decision Support and Information Access department of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
  • It substantially improved the data/root cause analysis by provided the ability to produce Action Statements, Graphs, Pie Charts and Bi-Weekly status reports regarding SDQ issues to the CCC, CDW projects and DSIA department.
  • The SDQ Tracking Sysstem was rolled-out to some 20 plus CCC, CDW and DSIA users and demos were conducted with user groups and department managers for training purposes.
  • In two weeks (approximately 50 hours), designed, developed and implemented the Customer Payment Option (CPO), Bank Reconcilation System for the Customer Accounting, Banking Operations department of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia to report on recovered MasterCard, Visa and Debit Card payments received from various Claim Centres (50) throughout the province of British Columbia.
  • It substantially reduced the reconciliation process from several day(s) effort to a few hours and provided the ability to email daily/monthly deposit reports within the I.C.B.C. organization.
  • The CPO Bank Reconciliation System was rolled-out to two users in the Customer Accounting, Banking Operations department as part of a pilot project within the I.C.B.C. head office.

Microsoft Office Access, is a relational database management system from Microsoft that combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software development tools.

The Microsoft Office Access 2007 Runtime enables you to distribute Access applications to users who do not have the full version of Access 2007 installed on their computers. Access stores data in its own format based on the Access Jet Database Engine. It can also import or link directly to data stored in other Access databases, Excel, SharePoint lists, text, XML,Outook, HTML, dBase, Paradox, Lotus 1-2-3, or any ODBC-compliant data container including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
